Lifetime Achievement Award for Colin Wood

Lifetime Achievement Award for Colin Wood

Colin Wood, former Chief Executive of the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA), has been recognised for his distinguished career in the construction plant industry at the 2018 European Rental Awards.

Colin, who stepped down from the position of CPA Chief Executive earlier this year, was awarded the European Rental Association (ERA) Lifetime Achievement Award at an awards ceremony hosted in Vienna, Austria, during the ERA’s Annual Convention. This prestigious accolade is awarded to an individual whose career achievements have had a profound impact on the industry. The awards are organised by the ERA and International Rental News (IRN) magazine.

Prior to joining the CPA, Colin’s entire career was spent in the crane hire industry where he had held senior management and board positions since 1980 with many of the biggest crane hire companies including Attwoods, BCHC (British Crane Hire Corporation), Scott Greenham, G W Sparrow, GWS (Grayston, White & Sparrow) and Baldwins Industrial Services. Chief Executive of the CPA since 2001, Colin had come to know the workings of the CPA very well through being an active CPA Council member for 10 years.

Colin Wood said: “I am most pleased to have received this prestigious award. Working in the crane rental industry for over 35 years and working for the CPA for the last 17 years, and indeed with the ERA, has enabled me to give something back to the industry.  In particular, working to create operational safety guidance for the benefit of the construction equipment industry as a whole.”

Upon making the award to Colin, Pierre Boels, ERA President, said: “Colin’s engagement with rental went beyond the UK. He was a vice president on ERA’s board during its important early years and his work as ERA’s treasurer helped set standards that are still being followed today. Throughout his career he has been a friendly presence on the scene. As he moves into retirement, the industry will miss his personality as much as it will his experience.”

The ERA awards were judged by Pierre Boels (CEO, Boels Rental & President, ERA), Michel Denis (CEO, Manitou), Gérard Déprez (CEO, Loxam), Pierre-Nicola Fovini (President, CGT Edilizia), Murray Pollok (Managing Editor, International Rental News) and non-voting chair Michel Petitjean (Secretary General, ERA).
