GAP’s Iain Anderson in running for prestigious IOD award

GAP Hire Solutions is thrilled to announce that Joint Managing Director, Iain Anderson, has been shortlisted for The Institute of Directors (IOD) ‘Director of the Year’ award in the Family Business category.

Iain is currently celebrating his 35th year with GAP, having joined the business in 1984 before becoming Joint Managing Director four years later. His ability to look longer term while reacting quickly to change has given GAP the edge when times are challenging, resulting in the business growing to become the UK’s largest independent and family-owned equipment rental company.

With turnover expected to top £200m in 2019, this reflects an increase in work with new clients but also repeat business with satisfied, loyal customers. Iain has played a pivotal role in developing relationships with customers that have stood the test of time.

When announcing the shortlist for the awards ceremony, David Watt, Executive Director of the Institute of Directors in Scotland, commented: “The Director of the Year Awards are an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those leading businesses in Scotland. The calibre of nominees is excellent this year and shows the breadth of businesses thriving in Scotland.”

Four finalists are shortlisted in the Family Business award category. The winner will be announced at the IoD Scotland Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central on Thursday 23rd May 2019.

David continued: “The nominees are not just business people; they are the leaders who drive our economy and people through times of unease. Our shortlist demonstrates positive leadership, good governance and an excellent skill set which are vital to architecting Scotland’s future. Being an accomplished director moves beyond focusing on the financials and must consider the wider aspects that will impact the success of the business – from sustainability to supporting employee wellness.”

The winners of the Scottish award categories will also progress to the prestigious UK Director of the Year Awards, which take place in London, in October.
