Hereford-based aggregate, concrete, and landscaping products suppliers Radbournes have increased their IVECO fleet over recent months by taking delivery of another 8×4 Stralis X-WAY tipper and one Eurocargo 4×2 tipper.
Coinciding with Radbournes’ 40th anniversary IVECO forms the mainstay of its aggregates collection and delivery business as it moves away from its solus fleet with a competitor brand.
The Radbournes name has become synonymous across Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Powys, and Worcestershire for providing a first-class service to the construction, gardening and landscape sectors for the trade and DIY markets from its Hereford base. Providing a reliable delivery service has been at the heart of Radbournes’ success with the trade and consumer alike.
Its three IVECO Stralis X-WAY tippers – two brand new and one ex-demonstrator were purchased from Glenside Commercials in Caerphilly and transport a range of stone and aggregates across the four counties. The first two were delivered in 2019 and in recent months a third has joined the fleet with a fourth on order after Radbournes and its drivers have been impressed with the truck’s reliability and performance.
“The X-WAYs carry out the work where we need to maximise payload and where ground clearance and traction are important, typically when we are delivering to construction sites. They also cover a lot of road miles, so they must be very versatile in several different areas,” explained Radbournes’ Managing Director, Chris Radbourne.
“The drivers are very happy with them. Their off-road performance including manoeuvrability is good thanks to their notable tight turning circle. They are easy to drive, comfortable and with the 460hp engine offer a good combination of power and fuel economy. We also have an excellent relationship with Glenside Commercials, who provide a first-class service, helping us to operate trucks that the business and our drivers are very happy with,” he continued.
Each Stralis X-WAY AD340X46Z covers around 80,000 miles per year and will remain on the fleet for five years. Specified in ‘OFF’ configuration, they feature shallower, steel front bumpers and provide a greater ground clearance than X-WAY’s that can be ordered in either ON or ON+, making them the perfect choice for when working on construction sites. Plated at 32-tonnes GVW the Stralis X-WAY has a market-leading payload of 19,500kg.
X-WAY is IVECO’s answer for those operators looking to blend on-road driveability with off-road capability. The X-WAY sits between the road-focused IVECO S-WAY and extraordinarily tough off-road IVECO T-WAY models, perfectly suited to extreme construction on/off-road quarrying work. Mission-oriented, the Stralis X- WAY range includes two-axle tractors through 8x4s and tridem rigids to the class-leading payload of the light-weight Super Loader mixer.
Radbournes have also taken delivery of an IVECO Eurocargo ML180E25K tipper fitted with a Bulkrite body and the 250hp 6-cylinder Tector 7 engine. Plated at 18-tonnes the Eurocargo provides an impressive payload of 10,500kg which is perfect for loose tip deliveries to trade and DIY customers. Its shorter wheelbase enables it to deliver to the most inaccessible locations such as home driveways with ease.
The Eurocargo has been particularly busy since it joined the fleet as more homeowners have been investing in their gardens during lockdown. The Eurocargo will be covering around 50,000 miles annually and will stay on fleet for five years.
Eurocargo majors on manoeuvrability and was the first of its kind to offer an automated transmission as standard. Powered by a dependable range of four and six-cylinder Tector diesel engines with IVECO’s exclusive and patented HI-SCR exhaust or CNG variants it offers efficiency without compromise. The stretches from the agile 6.5t to dexterous 18t GVW including a tough, high riding 4×4. With over 11,000 configurations available, there’s a Eurocargo for any mission.
Mark Lovering, managing director of Glenside Commercials said: “We are delighted to see Radbournes increase IVECO’s share of its total fleet of trucks. Its delivery service is a key part of why the business is so highly regarded by thousands of trade and DIY professionals. We look forward to delivering another new Stralis X-WAY 8×4 later in 2021,” he said.
