The chair of the COP 27 committee has pleaded with world leaders to step up and make good on their COP 26 pledges for action by 2030 following on from the devastating news that global temperatures rise is set to hit 2.5 degrees by the end of this century.
O’Donovan Waste has taken action to put the environment before profit and switched to using solely Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) biofuel for its entire fleet of 100 lorries. The first waste company to exclusively use HVO, O’Donovan has raised the bar in terms of sustainable working practices.
“We are a month into our HVO usage and it is blatantly obvious from the catastrophes we are seeing in terms of extreme temperatures, fires and flooding worldwide, that we are not a moment too soon,” says Jacqueline O’Donovan, Managing Director. “We have to face facts and step up as business leaders – the climate change crisis needs immediate action and we all have a part to play. I would hope that our bold move will spur other companies to follow in a bid to minimise their environmental impact.”
Jacqueline added, “There is no doubt that our switching to solely HVO will have a colossal effect on our client’s scope 3 supply chain emissions and it will greatly assist them to massively reduce their carbon impact. In this day and age, there is no room for complacency anymore and procurement departments need to concentrate on the companies that are placing the environment at the heart of their business strategy ”.
HVO is a proven alternative to petrol and diesel and the 100% renewable fuel eliminates up to 90% of net carbon dioxide emissions. The O’Donovan fleet also boasts Euro six engines throughout which reduces NOx by 85%. The award-winning business has previously announced their aspiration to be carbon neutral by 2035 and this significant move will be a huge contributing factor to achieving this.
