Leading vacuum excavation hire provider, Pier (UK) charts the development of its business
Pier (UK) was originally set up back in 2001 to provide drainage services. During this time we hired in a vacuum excavation system to expose buried utilities in a very heavily congested area on a road widening scheme for one of the UK’s largest civil engineering companies. Immediately we could see the benefits of vacuum excavation, so no hesitation was given to placing an order for the first machine.
On 23rd December 2008 Managing Director Sean Quinn took delivery of our first vacuum excavator, and with demand for the specialist equipment soon growing we then started to put a structure in place to sell and support our services. Brian Doran was employed as our sales manager supported by Managing Director, Sean Quinn and Majella Hughes our accounts manager. By early 2010 we’d introduced our second and third excavators and have continued to invest year on year ever since.
Over the years Pier (UK) have continued to grow the hire fleet size, and by 2015 we’d become the largest vacuum excavation hire provider in the UK. February 2016 was probably one of the most interesting months yet, with us making the big step to purchase the assets of the onetime dealer of our equipment, U-Mole a division of VP Plc.

With this purchase our status then stepped up and raised us to the position of the largest operator in Europe. We continued with our original planned orders throughout the year prior to the U-Mole purchase and are now proud to say that on 23rd December 2016 we received our 30th machine, hot off the production line.
Not only have we increased the quantity of machines, we have continued to build our infrastructure to support our services. Brian Doran has been promoted from Sales Manager to Sales Director, supported by two Sales Managers. Majella Hughes has been promoted from Accounts Manager to Finance Director, supported by an Accounts Manager and new vacancy for a Credit Controller currently being recruited. Other positions to support our team are a full time Health & Safety Manager, Marketing Manager and a Vehicle and Operator Controller.
