The purchase of three new Cat 725C Articulated Trucks from Caterpillar dealer Finning, marks a first for West Sussex specialist plant hire and contracting business Les Searle.
The deal, which also included a Cat D6T LGP Dozer, was fuelled by the purchase of two used Cat 740Bs, whose performance impressed Les Searle director, Dee Searle, who commented: “We have never really considered purchasing Caterpillar articulated trucks before, but the feedback from our operators using the Cat 740B’s was very good, so we then took a closer look at the new Cat 725C’s.
“Obviously price is important when you buy any machine and the Cat 725C’s were very competitive, but we are also interested in reliability and performance. For the Cat 725C’s this was as important, as they have been put to work on our contracting side of the business, which shifts over a million cubic metres of soil each year.
“Having put the units straight to work, we are pleased with their performance and as an added extra, we are getting a report each month from the Finsight engineering team at Finning.
“This tells us all about fuel burn and idle times, along with other information the machines send to the Finsight team. What is interesting about this as we move forward is that we will be able to match this information to our existing fuel management system, allowing us to cross check data.
“In turn this will help us to identify opportunities for efficiency gains and ultimately lead to cost savings.”
