Leading plant operator Murphy Plant Ltd has invested in 25 cabbed JCB site dumpers in a drive to improve the health and wellbeing of its machine operators.
Part of J. Murphy & Sons Limited, Murphy Plant has taken delivery of 15 JCB 6T-1 cabbed swivel-tip dumpers and 10 9T-1 cabbed front-tip models. These new additions take the fleet beyond 100 JCB machines, joining existing equipment such as JCB Fastrac, backhoe loader, Loadall telescopic handler, wheeled excavator and rough terrain forklift models.
The new JCB site dumpers are part of Murphy Plant’s ongoing fleet renewal programme. The machines will be used on a wide variety of projects in the power, natural resources, water, transport and construction sectors, for clients such as National Grid, Network Rail, Cadent, Thames Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent Water.
Mike Carpenter, Managing Director at Murphy Plant said, “We chose JCB for several key reasons, including quality, reliability, productivity and innovation. Our longstanding relationship with JCB is down to our shared values, which has always focused on remaining a family-orientated business.
“We have done a great deal of research into the fast-moving dumper market and the various options available. We have a duty of care to our operators and firmly believe that the JCB models are the right choice for Murphy. The JCB SiTESAFE cab is the primary driver here, with the operator in a safer space throughout operation, while comfort and protection against the elements are also key concerns. We specified the reversing and forward-facing cameras to ensure the safety of all involved on site.
“The new dumpers have been extremely well received within Murphy so far. They have replaced a longstanding incumbent but we’ve only received positive comments from our projects to date.
“Our choice of dealer, Greenshields JCB is a continuation of an age-old relationship that amazingly spans back over six decades. They are always very supportive of Murphy Plant and are providing a world-class after-sales service on these machines.”
The Murphy Plant maintenance team uses the JCB LiveLink telematics system to proactively maintain its equipment and enhance productivity on projects. The LiveLink system has also been useful in circumstances that have required security team involvement.
The 6T-1 and 9T-1 machines purchased by Murphy Plant are part of JCB’s line-up of one to nine-tonne capacity site dumpers, designed and built in-house. Leading an industry-wide focus on forward tipping dumpers, the range takes site dumper safety to a previously unachievable level.
The site dumpers are powered by JCB’s own fuel-efficient, 55kW (74hp) Ecomax diesel engine. Through the use of clean burn technology, the engine meets EU Stage IIIB/US Tier 4 Final emissions standards with no requirement for a costly diesel particulate filter or any form of exhaust after treatment. They are compliant with the latest safety legislation, including ISO 5006:2017 and boast the JCB SiTESAFE cab. This ROPS/FOPS Level II cab features a reinforced frame and an impact protective front screen.
Each machine is equipped with a front camera to increase visibility, along with a sequenced drive-inhibit system to ensure that operators are correctly seated and secure before driving. Each also benefits from a manufacturer-backed two-year warranty and all-steel construction.
