M. Teevan Hire Co. Ltd., the construction tools and plant hire company based in Acton in West London, has placed a large order worth well over £2 million for around 100 compact excavators from Bobcat, one of the largest orders ever for Bobcat in the UK independent rental sector. The new order comprises Bobcat E08, E10, E17, E17z, E26, E45 and E85 compact excavators covering operating weights from 0.8 to 8.5 tonne.
M. Teevan Hire is a family company formed over 40 years ago by Chairman, Michael Teevan. Today Michael’s son, Damian, who is Managing Director, runs the company with the help of his highly experienced team on a day-to-day basis. As well as fleet renewal, the new Bobcat order also represents a major expansion for Teevans to increase business in the busy markets of London and the Home Counties of England.
Damian Teevan commented: “We have been here on Horn Lane in Acton for more than 40 years and our experience speaks for itself. The company continues to be a family business and this is the main reason for our success – we know how to help each other and our customers. We chose the Bobcat brand to power our expansion for several reasons. Bobcat is a brand we know well that is synonymous with quality, performance and reliability. Under the lead provided by Sales Manager, Alan Sams, Bobcat was able to offer a very attractive package backed up throughout London and the Home Counties by excellent service and parts support from Bobcat of London, the local Authorised Bobcat Dealer for the area.”
Teevans offers all types of equipment for building, utilities, civil engineering, refurbishment, DIY and gardening, from small hand tools to excavators up to 22 tonne, dumpers from 1 to 10 tonne and telehandlers for lifting heights from 4 to 18 m. Teevans’ headquarters and depot in Acton are within easy reach of customers via the nearby A40 and North Circular Road quickly serving the whole of the London market and beyond.
Bobcat Sales Manager, Alan Sams, commented: “We are delighted to secure this substantial order from Teevans, which has been a mainstay of the market in London and the South East for many years. It is a reflection of the high reputation that the UK rental sector holds for the Bobcat range of compact excavators, compact loaders, telehandlers and attachments.”
All of the models added to the Teevans fleet are part of the E-generation of machines from Bobcat designed to provide an unmatched combination of class-leading breakout forces, working range, smoothness of workgroup functions, hydraulic output and fast cycle times, centred around a roomy and comfortable operator environment, durability and excellent service access.
The E08 and E10 models have each been supplied with three buckets including a ditching bucket and also feature Bobcat’s Keyless Start system for theft protection. The same applies to the rest of the machines in the order, but they also feature long blades where applicable as well as green seat belt lights and warning beacons. The E17 and E17z units are canopy versions of these models, whilst the E26, E45 and E85s are cabbed machines.
The minimal width of the E08 0.8 tonne and E10 one tonne micro-excavators allows for excellent manoeuvrability in confined spaces, while the zero tail swing design of the E10 is an additional advantage when working in tight areas. Once the excavators are positioned and ready for work, the undercarriage on the E08 and E10 can be hydraulically expanded to 1000 mm and 1100 mm, respectively, ensuring that the operator has maximum stability in all conditions, for digging, levelling and working with attachments such as a breaker.
The Bobcat E17 compact excavator, with a canopy and rubber tracks has an operating weight of 1711 kg, a maximum digging depth of 2249 mm and maximum reach at ground level of 3871 mm, complemented by compact overall dimensions, with easy transportability further enhanced by ample tie-down points.
The E17z Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) canopy model has a standard operating weight of 1749 kg and a maximum digging depth of 2249 mm. The ZTS functionality is taken a level further in the E17z using Bobcat’s Zero House Swing (ZHS) design, in which the front upper structure is also fully protected by ensuring the front corners are kept within the swing circle when the tracks are in the fully expanded position.
Contributing to the high reliability of the E26 mini-excavator are the 4-plate box design for the workgroup, high resistant DCPD covers and ‘quick lock’ hydraulic connections. The 4-plate box design reduces weight in the workgroup which, together with weight being added at the back of the excavator, has made it possible to move the centre of gravity towards the rear of the machine and increase stability. The maximum digging depth of the E26 model is 2582 mm, with a maximum reach at ground level of 4553 mm and a maximum dump height of 3057 mm.
Equipped with cab and bucket, the E45 has an operating weight of 4634 kg and offers a maximum digging depth of 3300 mm. Powered by the 4-cylinder Kubota V2403-M-DI-TE38-BC-5 turbo-charged Tier III diesel engine, producing 30.2 kW net per SAE J1349 of output power at 2200 RPM, the E45 offers both fuel economy and abundant power. This results in breakout forces of 28.0 kN in the dipper arm and 35.1 kN at the bucket for the E45 and a lifting capacity of 2369 kg at ground level and at a radius of 3 m.
The reduced tail swing E85 model is powered by the Yanmar 4TNV98C-VDB8 Stage IIIB compliant diesel engine providing 44.3 kW of power at 2100 RPM. Complementing the 10% increase in power over the previous E80 model, the E85 excavator offers a much higher fuel efficiency, which is among the best on the market. The E85 has a maximum digging depth of 4.63 m and a machine weight of 8600 kg.
