All in a Good Cause for GAP

GAP Hire Solutions donated £80,000 to 99 charities in the financial year 2016/2017.

GAP’s Charitable Foundation was set up in April 2015 and donates around 0.5 per cent of the company’s profits to charities. The donations are allocated through applications put forward to the GAP Giving committee by the 1,600-strong workforce. The committee includes members of staff from a variety of roles within GAP, meeting monthly at the head office in Glasgow.

There are various ways GAP Giving provide support:

Donation
Any GAP employee can nominate a charity they feel is deserving or who may have helped themselves, family or friends in the past. This year, 36 donations totalling £8,000 have been made to local, national and international charities.

Charities of the Month
GAP has eight divisions specialising in the hire of equipment to the construction and events industries and over 130 locations throughout the UK. Every year, each region, division and head office department are given the opportunity to choose a charity for a donation of £1,000. GAP Giving has donated to 51 charities via the charity of the month and special donation schemes (charities Joint Managing Directors Douglas and Iain Anderson support). Charities who received a £1,000 donation last year include Stroke Association, London Air Ambulance, WWF, British Heart Foundation, Salvation Army, Prostate Cancer UK, St Andrew’s Hospice, Shelter, Prince’s Trust, RNLI and When You Wish Upon a Star.

GAP Match
GAP also operates a matching scheme, where employees who fundraise for a charity will see their efforts matched by GAP Giving (up to £500). This year there have been 25 donations made via GAP Match. Employees have been involved in various events including marathons, three peak challenges, sponsored walks, pancake day and coffee mornings.

Catriona Dunning, Head of HR at GAP, commented: “We are delighted to announce that so many deserving charities have received donations thanks to our considerate employees who put their suggestions forward to the committee.

“I am continually impressed by the drive and enthusiasm of our staff to raise funds for worthwhile causes. Additionally, as part of our commitment to making a sustainable difference to the lives of our employees and the wider community, all our staff are encouraged to spend one day a year, during working time, undertaking an approved community activity.

“GAP Giving and our corporate volunteering initiatives will continue in to the new financial year, supporting charities and worthwhile causes across the globe.”
