GAP Hire Solutions has been recognised for its substantial fundraising contribution to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
In June 2001, Peter Capel was awarded an MBE for his services to the construction industry benevolent fund The Lighthouse Club and following his passing in 2010, The “Peter Capel” Cup has been awarded each year to acknowledge outstanding individual fundraising. GAP’s Charitable Foundation, GAP Giving, has made donations totalling £45,000 this year to the Lighthouse Club.
GAP Giving donates around 0.5 per cent of annual profits to various charities across the globe, with the worthy causes nominated by their 1,600+ staff. For the first seven months of this financial year alone, the Foundation has already donated £85,095 in total to 56 charities including the Alzheimer’s Society, Childreach International, MacMillan Cancer Research and the National Autistic Society.
Douglas E Oakervee, President of the Lighthouse Club, said: “Our sincere thanks for the wonderful donations totalling £45,000 this year. Although our charity benefits from many small donations, it is significant and sustained corporate support that gives the confidence to invest in new services to support our charitable purposes into the future.”
The Lighthouse Club’s primary purpose is to give aid to construction workers and their families who have suffered financial hardship as a consequence of accident, illness or bereavement. This assistance had always been in the form of emergency financial aid and since 1956 the Lighthouse Club has helped over 13,500 families that have struggled on the edge of poverty by granting over £14m in support.
Douglas continued: “It is thanks to contributions like yours, we have been able to invest in new services such as our 24/7 helpline and most recently our health and safety innovation app, Take5, which will help construction sites report near misses and general safety hazards. However, these projects need reliable funding to ensure we can develop and deliver our objectives and thanks to corporate support such as yours we can progress in confidence”.
Douglas Anderson, Managing Director of GAP Hire Solutions said: “We are passionate supporters of the Lighthouse Club. The charity focuses on improving lives and helps support ill and injured construction workers and their families. Established in 1969, our company is a family owned and run business and as we have grown we have never lost sight of our family ethos; this ethos makes us unique in the industry we operate in and we will continue to support our own.”
