Iain Anderson, the Joint Managing Director at GAP Hire Solutions, has been honoured at the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland Awards.
The event, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central on Thursday 23rd May 2019, recognised the outstanding contribution made by many of Scotland’s businesses’ leading lights. Iain received two prestigious accolades: Glasgow & West of Scotland Regional Director of the Year, and Family Business Director of the Year.
The awards are judged by a recognised and respected panel of industry leaders. On Iain’s successes, the judges commented: “Iain illustrated well how his extensive experience is shaping his leadership of the GAP Group and he is a leader in his sector, not just of his business. The success of his leadership translates into business growth. Iain has a strong knowledge of his sector and vast experience as a director. This is a successful family business built up over many years, which shows clear evidence of investment in its employees.”
This year GAP celebrates its 50th anniversary, a landmark that underlines the success the business has enjoyed since it was founded in 1969 by Gordon Anderson. Gordon’s sons, Douglas and Iain, have led the business as Joint Managing Directors since 1988, ensuring that the same family principles on which the company were founded continue to this day.
David Watt, Executive Director of the Institute of Directors in Scotland, commented on the night:
“In what has been one of the most challenging and unpredictable political and business environments of modern times, business leaders have been truly tried and tested. Tonight’s winners are testament to the tenacity and commitment not only to their organisations, but also their employees, stakeholders and customers.
“It is clear that excellence in leadership is spread across all sectors and the length and breadth of Scotland. The Director of the Year awards provide a chance to recognise and celebrate these fantastic examples of the dynamic thinking and strategic planning which will benefit the companies and the country long into the future, as well as cementing Scotland’s place on a global stage.
“Key traits that emerged throughout the judging process centred on a fearlessness to innovate; collaboration with partners; and a commitment to ongoing investment in their employees to ensure their businesses grow further. These are crucial values which will engage and inspire the next generation of business leaders. Congratulations to all of tonight’s finalists and winners.”
In total, 20 outstanding leaders collected awards at the ceremony across 11 key director categories and seven regional categories. By winning the national Director of the Year category, Iain has qualified for the esteemed UK Director of the Year Awards, which take place in London on the 18th October 2019.
