National construction equipment hire and services provider Speedy has shipped 287 mobile generators to Ukraine to maintain power for essential services including hospitals and shelters, on behalf of the UK government.
The business was appointed by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to source and supply the units, which have been donated by the UK government to the Ukrainian authorities.
The generators, which produce the equivalent energy needed to power 8,000 homes, will be used for services including hospitals, relief centres, phone masts and water pumping stations in areas where electricity grids have been affected by the conflict.
Speedy sourced the generators from manufacturer Pramac, with units being shipped from its bases in the UK, Italy, France, Spain and China. More than 200 have already reached Ukraine, with the remaining units in transit from Pramac’s international bases.
The 287 units make-up a third of the UK government’s total generator shipments to Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The donations follow a request from the Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko, who welcomed previous shipments by saying “the light will always win over darkness”.
Speedy’s Chief Executive Russell Down, said: “We’re proud to play our part in helping the government’s efforts to support the Ukrainian people in these desperate times.
“Supply chain constraints and the recovery of the events and construction industries post-Covid have created availability challenges across the world.
“By leveraging the strong relationship we have with Pramac, we were able to secure the quantity of generators required in a short time frame so the government could provide quick and effective support for communities in Ukraine.”
The Merseyside-headquartered hire giant was contracted by BEIS via the Crown Commercial Service framework for public sector procurement.
Speedy supplies generators from [8kVA to 150kVA typically serving the construction, infrastructure and events industries.
The business is the UK’s leading provider of tools, equipment and plant hire services to a wide range of customers in the construction, infrastructure and industrial markets, as well as to local trade and consumers.
