Mecalac Construction Equipment UK is partnering with leading telematics company Trakm8 to provide customers with an advanced GPS tracking solution
Along with being a deterrent to plant theft, the technology includes full ECU integration, enabling engineers to perform remote diagnostics. Machinery health alerts also act as an early warning system to equipment owners. This helps to reduce the risk of breakdowns, and allows for proactive maintenance planning.
Additionally, site managers can access a dashboard giving them real-time information on plant location, and fuel consumption. They also have the ability to geo-fence machinery, helping to prevent unauthorised use.
Lee Aldridge, Programme Manager at Mecalac Construction Equipment UK , said: “Over the past few years, we’ve seen customer demand for telematics capability increase significantly. By partnering with Trakm8, we can now offer a market-leading, proven solution for customers around the world.”
Mecalac is a global producer of compact plant equipment. Its UK factory produces backhoe loaders, site dumpers and compact compaction rollers. Trakm8 is an established telematics and data provider, delivering solutions to the fleet, automotive, insurance and construction equipment sectors.
The partnership, commencing in June 2017, will see Trakm8 supply a minimum of 2,000 units over the first three years. Mecalac will brand the system as Capture, offering machines fitted with Capture to its global customer base. Visitors to the Mecalac stand at Plantworx were offered free demonstrations of the solution.
Capture utilises Trakm8’s latest generation T10 telematics device, which is manufactured at the Group’s facility in the West Midlands, UK. Mecalac will install T10s on its production line in Coventry, UK, using automotive-standard processes developed by Trakm8.
John Watkins, Executive Chairman of Trakm8, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Mecalac to deliver an innovative telematics technology for its global customer base. This is a further endorsement of our construction equipment solutions.”
This contract with Mecalac follows Trakm8 extending its strategic alliance with Kubota UK last year. Trakm8 telematics are also an integral part of the OverSite construction site safety system by OnGrade.
