The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) has had a long association with CPCS, dating back to its origins in the Certificate of Training Achievement (CTA) scheme. Following CITB’s announcement about divesting CPCS, CPA Council has been considering what the change of ownership means for CPA Members.
Kevin Minton, CPA Chief Executive, said: “Many CPA Members will have employees who hold CPCS cards, and much of the equipment owned by our Members will at some time be operated by a CPCS accredited operator. The scheme is an important part of many hire companies’ businesses. We want to make sure that the investment our Members have made in training and competence is protected. We have therefore offered our support to NOCN, the new owners of the scheme, to help achieve a successful and smooth transition from the public sector into the third sector.
“Within the CPA team and amongst our Members there is a considerable body of expertise and experience, and we will be talking with NOCN about how access to that could help them establish the scheme in its new home. We want card-holders and their employers to be able to see that it is very much ‘business as usual’ at CPCS,” he continued.
New Policy Manager at the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA)
Chris Cassley has joined the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) team as Policy Manager. This is a new position, and the principal purpose of the role is to analyse external and internal influences on CPA policy and strategy. Chris will also be responsible for working with CPA Council and the team to develop and implement policy, to further the best interests of CPA members.
Chris was previously employed by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) for over 16 years. His most recent role at the CBI was Lead Policy Advisor for the EU Science and Innovation campaign, acting as the link between government, the EU and CBI members. Prior to this he was Medium Sized Business Campaign Manager and Manufacturing and Construction Council Policy Advisor at the CBI. He acted as the secretariat to a number of high level CBI policy committees, including establishing the Innovation and Digital Committee.
Following his appointment, Chris said: “’I am delighted to join the CPA team. Plant machinery is the backbone of the construction industry and the CPA plays a vital role in representing the interests of the sector. I look forward to working with our members in developing and shaping this new area for the CPA as we meet the issues head on.”
