The crane and excavator attachment experts Kinshofer UK has enjoyed a successful 2018, with a number of new product developments. Construction Plant News looks back at some of the highlights.
When Atlas sold its Schaeff Transverse Cutter business to Kinshofer in 2018, it would close a gap in the latter’s broad range of demolition tools. Already known for its Demarec MQP and D-HD/DRG range, and the HPXdrive grapples, other sectors, such as landscaping and construction, will now benefit from the additions. It is Kinshofer’s intention to roll out this new product line globally and sell and support it by its own subsidiaries or regional partner distributors. The company will also service units sold by Atlas with technical support, as well as the spare and wear parts which are now available through its network.
Hillhead 2018 was an opportunity for potential customers to get up close and personal with a transverse drum cutter set-up that included a NOX Tiltrotator and OilQuick hydraulic quick change. At the same event the traditional demolition range from Demarec also proved popular, and was complemented by the smaller DMS Multi-Shears with exchangeable jaw sets. Among other products featured were a selection of the twin D-Lock quick couplers and tilt couplers, and the largest HPXdrive clamshell bucket, the C40HPX, suitable for 40t excavators.
Launched this year, the latter is the latest in the C-Series solution, which have been developed especially for the loading and unloading of bulk materials in large amounts. In contrast to conventional hydraulic grabs, with the cylinderless HPXdrive the torque is generated by two pistons, which run opposed and have four helix threads. The torque is delivered to two shafts, on which the shells are mounted, providing an extended service life, enhanced efficiency and, as a result of a high and absolutely constant closing force, excellent digging characteristics and easier penetration of the material.
Recent years have continued to see the Tiltrotator concept gain traction in the UK plant industry, and 2018 has been no exception. Indeed, operators who have embraced the concept rarely look back and Kinshofer’s NOX solution has a number of advantages. Its NOX tiltrotator is available for excavators from 3t up to 25t operating weights and, with its cylinderless design making it virtually as ‘slim as the dipper’, it can work unimpeded in confined areas with no drop-off in torque across the tilt angle.

In fact, Kinshofer prides itself on being a one-stop-shop for attachments. All in-house quick couplers, such as L-Lock, D-Lock, SLock or X-Lock systems can be installed, as well as quick-coupler systems of other manufacturers. Furthermore, the German attachment specialist combines ideally with the fully hydraulic OilQuick quick-coupler system, where the NOX as well as hydraulically operated attachments can be changed within seconds. The NOX gaining Product Acceptance status from Network Rail was another important development this year and is a demonstration of the productivity gains the technology can bring to the rail sector.
An initial order for six units was received from Quattro Group’s Rail division through MTK Breaker Hire and Sales, Kinshofer’s authorised dealer based in Levenshulme, Manchester. MTK will be offering a full technical support and aftersales service, backed up by additional support from Kinshofer UK’s dedicated technical and aftersales team.
Quattro Group has been engaged with track-side trenching work on behalf of Network Rail – the challenging nature of the
work involved was further complicated with tiltrotator rams becoming caught, damaged or broken and affecting productivity levels. The cylinderless design of the NOX Tiltrotator was seen as a fundamental factor in finding a cost-effective solution and has helped to improve overall efficiency.
For over 45 years, Kinshofer has been a leading manufacturer of attachments for truck mounted cranes and excavators with a consistent development of innovative product ranges, gaining a reputation for quality, reliability and safety. In a demonstration of the faith it puts in its own technology the Kinshofer Group has introduced a two-year warranty on all its attachments, including the Demarec, RF System, Auger Torque, Doherty and Solesbee’s brands. Indeed on some attachments and components Auger Torque grants an even longer warranty period.
