The largest independent hire company in the UK, GAP Group Hire Solutions, is aiming to become net-zero by 2040.
Confirmation of their commitment to offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-fuel powered machinery has been clearly demonstrated with an order of sustainable site lighting equipment from the Cambridgeshire company, Trime UK Limited.
The order, worth in excess of £4m, includes Trime models X-SOLAR, X-SOLAR/HYBRID, X-HYBRID and their latest product the X-LITHIUM HYBRID.
The X-SOLAR entirely noise and emission free. Trime have estimated that the monthly average fuel costs for the X-SOLAR/HYBRID is a minute £5.00, with monthly emissions of just 17kg of CO2. The X-SOLAR HYBRID is powered by a combination of a small fuel-efficient diesel engine and a series of AGM batteries. The set can run on battery power for up to 11 hours before recharging becomes necessary.
These new additions to the GAP hire fleet will complement their current holding of Trime X-ECO LED lighting towers which is also included in the above order.
GAP’s Green Action Plan document mentions that the X-ECO LED from Trime is an innovative lighting product. Thanks to its LED lamps and automated start/ stop technology, the X-ECO LED uses less than a third of the fuel required to run a standard lighting tower, producing 888kg less CO2 per month as a result.
Commenting on this latest order, Ken Stewart, GAP’s Head of Procurement said, “With all the negatives that surround the use of diesel, many contractors are actively seeking alternatives to power their sites. In addition, diesel prices are set to rise when the Government introduces tax changes that means most users of red diesel will be taxed at the standard rate. The low running costs and sustainable elements of the Trime lights will help to lessen fuel usage and lower emissions, whilst aiding us to move forward to our 2040 goals.”
Ken added “We have a long standing and successful relationship with Trime, one of our key supply partners whose products are reliable, robust and innovative. We face many supply issues in a current period of uncertainty, but the above order was placed in March of this year to allow as much times as possible in having the products available ready for the key lighting season. True to form, Trime did not disappoint and rose to the challenge with several products now ready for shipment with the balanced now at an advanced stage of manufacture. We’re delighted with their proactive performance.”
