JCB accelerates LiveLink development

JCB now offers a series of new features in its LiveLink telematics portal to increase efficient use of machines.

Launched in 2011 and now with almost 400,000 machines monitored by the system, LiveLink gives machine operators and fleet managers easy access to all data through an online portal and mobile app. The latest generation of technology builds on the demand from JCB users to access data from anywhere, ensuring they can make informed decisions whether on site or in an office.

The latest developments include:

  • Service Tracking – designed to reduce downtime by giving enhanced visibility of servicing schedules assigned by JCB or by the user.  This service is seamlessly integrated with the JCB dealer network to provide improved co-ordination between customer and service provider.
  • Security Geofences – alerts are issued to users when equipment is moved from a site, pushing notifications to the users phone through the LiveLink App.  Geofences are user defined so can be as site specific as required.

The new LiveLink portal also features an integration with the what3words global location system. This means that every single connected machine can be pinpointed to a specific what3words location at any time. what3words is a system that maps the entire globe into 3m x 3m squares, giving each of them a unique 3-word reference.

This incredibly simple yet effective system makes it possible to identify an exact location without a postcode or a street address. Notably the system is used internationally by emergency services, such as mountain rescue teams trying to locate an injured hiker, where they are far from a road and certainly without a postcode.

For construction equipment – which regularly works on sites without post codes – it is simple to use what3words with LiveLink. With a single click, the what3words location of any machine is shown. This integration benefits not only the customer, but crucially it aids the dealer and service technician in locating the machine when work must be carried out, and also helps police forces in the recovery of stolen machines.

The new and improved LiveLink features a dashboard view which gives constant access to accurate monitoring data and reporting on machine usage and performance, while the platform can also store important documentation such as compliance certificates and safety inspections – ensuring all information relating to the fleet is instantly accessible. Through the optional LiveLink Enterprise feature, information can be automatically extracted from existing rental or fleet management systems to reduce manual data entry and administration.

Available as an option, mixed fleet functionality allows the integration of other equipment brands’ machines into JCB LiveLink – centralising the entire fleet’s telematics data into one place. This saves time and complication by eradicating the need for multiple systems. The machine sharing feature also allows the user to give visibility of equipment data to other users and organisations, which can be ideal for rental environments.

Alongside the new web platform, JCB offers the JCB Operator app for digital pre-start checks. Available on both iOS and Android platforms, the JCB Operator app alerts of failed pre-start checks via LiveLink. Operators can take photos and add text if required, aiding the quick resolution of any issues. All checks completed are stored digitally against the machine record and can be exported to PDF for sharing or for auditing. This works with any asset in your account, with the ability to view quick start guides and compliance documents for JCB assets.

New & existing users should speak to their local JCB dealer for assistance with setting up or upgrading their accounts to the new LiveLink portal.
