The filtration expert MANN+HUMMEL has published its updated air filter catalog. The products in the catalog are according to DIN ISO EN 16890, the international standard for particle filtration in buildings, and now include information on the energy efficiency class according to the new Eurovent energy efficiency classification which came into effect on January 1, 2019.
The new definition of the energy efficiency according to Eurovent for air filters used in HVAC applications is valid for filters with a size of 592 x 592 mm. It is based on the ISO filter classes such as ePM1 50% and an annual energy consumption in kWh/y. There are 6 energy classes from A+ to E, whereby A+ stands for the lowest energy consumption and E stands for the highest energy consumption.
The definition is more precise than the old system according to EN779 where there was only one consumption value per energy class. The new system offers five values for the annual energy consumption which are specifically for each ISO efficiency rating. Therefore, for example, for the ePM1 filter class there is information on energy consumption for the efficiency ratings of 50-55%, 60-65%, 70-75%, 80-85% and > 90%. This increases transparency concerning the energy consumption of the filter for HVAC applications and simplifies choice of the filter. The system enables planners and facility management companies to reduce energy costs. The key to this is choosing the right filter to ensure correct air quality with the lowest possible energy consumption.
The new Eurovent classification is defined in the new measurement standard RS4/C/001-2019 and includes all products in the scope of the Eurovent Certified Performance Program for air filters with a nominal air flow of 0.944 m3/s.
In the certification process, the products certified according to Eurovent have to state their annual energy consumption (kWh/y) for each ISO efficiency rating. The correctness of this information is inspected in the laboratory on a random basis. The certified information can be viewed at the Eurovent Website.
